chasing the dragon

driving with jane from the aiport back to bankok i noticed some industrial facades below the elevated highway. me: ‘jane! look at those! so beautiful” jane: haha, you want to go there dont you… (smiles) me: can you just remember where they are? (i notice some old steam locomotives on the side of the building, jane is speaking to the cab driver in thai now, i have no clue what they are saying.) me: what did he say? jane: (smiles) he said thats where they take the old locomotives to be repaired… me: (jaw drops). the next day i head to these buildings with janes friend belle. she takes me on a commuter train to the area which drops us off 30 ft from the repair shop and antique locomotives, we climb though a hole in the fence and see these beautiful machines rotting away. as we walk down the road which is filled only with workers, security comes by on a motorcycle and politely escourts us out. belle and i walk down the tracks a bit and she starts talking to a local worker, a moment later he is taking us on the property and asking me in broken english how many trains i want to photograph. me: ‘uhhhh, all of them? which are the oldest?’ i get take a few quick photos of the old locomotives and then he tells us that inside there are mostly newer trains being repaired. me: ‘can we go inside?’ worker: ‘yes but be quiet’ he takes us inside and shows us around…we only have a few moments not enough time to set up… belle is speaks to them for some time and looks at me and says ‘OK, he says you can come back at 8 with me and you can shoot and take your time.’ =)
